Start-Up Visa (SUV) Program
The Canada Start-Up Visa Program is a permanent immigration pathway designed for innovative entrepreneurs who want to establish and operate a business in Canada. It connects eligible applicants with designated Canadian venture capital funds, angel investor groups, or business incubators that can support their business idea and help it grow.
Successful applicants receive Canadian permanent residence for themselves and their eligible family members.
Key Requirements
- Letter of Support
Applicants must obtain a Letter of Support from a designated Canadian organization confirming backing for their business idea. - Business & Investment Support
Support must come from a designated:
- Venture Capital Fund
- Angel Investor Group
- Business Incubator
- Language Requirement
Minimum CLB 5 in English or French through an approved language test. - Education Requirement
At least one year of post-secondary education with proof of good academic standing. - Settlement Funds
Applicants must show sufficient funds to support themselves and their family upon arrival in Canada. - Medical & Security Clearance
All applicants and dependents must pass medical examinations and security checks.
Important Notes
- The program is open to eligible entrepreneurs worldwide (excluding Quebec-specific immigration programs).
- Applicants receive permanent residence even if the business later fails, as long as PR is already granted.
- Processing is managed under IRCC guidelines with limits and eligibility requirements subject to change.
